Coping with the holidays and the stress that comes with them is even more difficult when you have an illness.

With the demands of treatment and fatigue, the holidays can certainly become overwhelming.

So please, remember you have permission to:

Keep Things Simple: Simplicity can add so much richness to your festivities…and it’s freeing. Brainstorm new ideas with your family.
Delegate:  Make your celebration a team event!
Remember – you have the choice to say YES, or NO. If it’s not going to lift your spirits, you don’t have to do it.
Will you be traveling? Make sure you have needed medications, pack copies of medical records and important phone numbers, and check-in with your doctor.
Stick to Your Regular Routine: Our bodies’ natural rhythms do play a role in how people respond to treatments.
Be Aware of Your Emotions: You have permission to feel and express sadness and frustration and the changes in your life.
Celebrate: Cherish the reason for the season and enjoy the presence of loved ones.  Remember, the most important part of the holidays is being together.
Every holiday is reason for beautiful memories.
And remember to celebrate strengths you and your loved ones have developed. Many families who face the day-to-day challenges of cancer discover strengths and courage they didn’t know they had. Reflect on the strengths you have developed, and build on them during the holidays!
