Now, a study published in Psychoneuroendocrinology that involves the relatively new field of epigenetics (affecting the expressionof genes without actually manipulating the genes themselves) produces more compelling reasons to add mindful meditation to your health or treatment regime.
It was found that mindful meditation (as compared to other quiet activities) created a significant decrease in the expression of genes that regulate inflammation (RiPK2, C0X2), and cortisol and pain levels.
Meditation is a free and easily learned intervention that yields pretty immediate results. You don’t need to be a Yogi or an experienced meditator to reap the benefits- though consistent practice will yield more powerful ones.
Meditation is no longer some weird “new age” practice. It is an evidence-based tool for stress management and healing. And it is one that Evicting Cancer encourages and teaches along with several other self-care, stress reduction tools.
